Nothing Noble

So I am now hosting my friends from New Orleans. A young couple, one graduate student from Tulane , one from University of New Orleans, quickly found spaces at Columbia and NYU, respectively. It was an amazing process to witness, and it renewed my faith in humanity. They'd left New Orleans on Sunday night to take refuge with family in Mississippi, in an unfortunate turn of events, the eye of the storm shifted over to MIssissippi and they were left without running water and electricity for four days. From there they drove to Nashville and stayed in a hotel until their 3 day reservation ran out. They, then, snaked back home to California, but (in an amazingly proactive gesture!) while on the road they were calling colleges to find out whether they could get in. Upon arrival in California (just this Thursday morning) they hopped on a plane and flew to LA to look at schools. From LA they drove to the airport hoped on a red eye and arrived here yesterday morning (5 am). They slept a few hours and we headed out to the schools.

We are now in the process of trying to obtain any and all relief funds and find out whether someone is offering more accomodating free housing for them here in the city (e.g. . Lots more to do and my feet hurt fom running around the city yesterday but I feel positive and so happy that at least one part of their journey is complete.
