Racial slur on sofa label stuns family

When the new chocolate-coloured sofa set was delivered to her Brampton home, Doris Moore was stunned to see packing labels describing the shade as "Nigger-brown."

Oh dear, I just don't know what to say anymore. It's not even interesting or creative. Come on racists, you can do better!

I watched that documentary about Jim Jones and Jonestown on PBS last night and my stomach is still totally twisted in a knot. I had such a rush of emotions about all that went down. The mix of high idealism and downright dirty dog scheming was just heartbreaking. The idea that this white man could build up this--mostly black--politically powerful church and get these people's love and admiration and fear and end up precipitating the death of over 900 people is fucking scary as hell. What hit me most was when a guy who'd lost most of his family down there said, "At least we tried." How sad that even after all that happened he couldn't understand that the situation was a total fascist authoritarian dystopia. Very very heartbreaking and disappointing. The documentary wasn't genius and there were huge gaping holes and a lack of analysis, but it was still amazing to see all that footage and hear the stories...especially for me as someone who has been often drawn to activism and cultish groups as surrogate families. I might very well have joined if I was a young person at that time. Very scary. Anyway, this documentary was intense and took all the wind out of me. This is still a very incredible story, if they repeat it it's definitely worth a look.
